Taiwan on Wednesday flew down its national flag at its embassy in Lilongwe and started winding up their activities following diplomatic switch to Communist China, dejected staff at the Area 43 offices told Nyasa Times.
Malawi has given Taiwanese officials 30 days to leave the country after it cut diplomatic ties with the island nation in favour of China.
"We have been given 30 days in which to pack and leave Malawi," Elliot Jiang, spokesperson for the Taiwanese embassy in Lilongwe said.
Jiang said about 40 jobs held by Malawians at the embassy and at its technical mission would be lost immediately.

dear diana, in terms of economy and expertise, please look up the precise statistics. Taiwan's GDP is much higher and always have been, and there is no hope that china will catch up in the next few decades. next time, plz do your research before you comment on matters that you are not familiar with

Malawi has done a great job in switching alliances. We need to look at the big picture. 40 people may lose there jobs, but if China brings employment for 1000 people, its an advantage. WE cant just look how it affects a few individuals. We need to see how it affects the country as a whole. Malawians in general are afraid of change. Lets face it, Taiwan has exploited Malawi the same way China will. Having relations with a Superpower though is better for Malawi then keeping relations with Taiwan, whos economy and expertise is not as a advanced. Malawi will never progress if people are not willing to change the status quo. Our current government is educated, and our President and Finance Ministers are all econonmists. I\'m putting my eggs in that basket!!

malawi has made a big mistake in this diplomatic switch.The details given to us are not enought to explain this switch over. It is tatamount to diplomatic prostitution.Think of the projects that were under Taiwan funding.Hold my foot , I am angry. my sister is in Taiwan studying and as of now she does not know what will happen.She is strunded!!!!!!!!!!!
